As a general rule, we at Carton Brewing strive for drinkability through balance and harmonization of flavors. But even self-imposed rules are meant to be broken. Double Dry Hyped Epitome embraces the teenage metalhead in each of us and gets discordant with a seriously hoppy, high gravity, black ale. The only notions accepted were to make it bigger, bolder, hotter & faster. A beast. It had to push past 10, literally. The black had to be “none more,” and hops American and piled on like a double bass drum kicking faster and harder. Drink Double Dry Hyped Epitome because we wrote DDH on a beer.

*On this version of this beer, we multiplied dry hop weight and occurrence by a factor of two of the beer we’ve previously made.

Can to snifter.
Appearance: thoroughly black all the way around the glass and a nice looking two finger eggshell white foamy head. This dissipated to leave some light messy lace.
Aroma: deep, dark and danky piney/resinous hops, some oniony to some hemp-like hops then a deep dark roasty coffee bean quality
Flavor: wraps those prior mentioned aromas together bittersweetly, minor aftertaste of danky hops and coffee beans
Texture: medium to full bodied, only a sipper, piney resin and dankiness is doing what I expected - the slaying of my tongue, that astringency that cannot be avoided in this style but to be honest, I like it and know the purpose of it; and so a dry piney and danky finish is the one finish that tells me "oh palate wrecker, oh palate wrecker, where have you been? I've waited for you for so long and now I've found you!"
Overall: not even sure how much else I need to say about this beer other than of course I would want to have again!

Can sample at a tasting at troubles' place. Thanks Max. Dark brown. Piney hops, some roast, a bit of coffee, quite dry, very bitter.

16 ounce can. Opaque black pour. Frothy tan head. Roasted malt nose is subdued. Roasted malt flavor has notes of charcoal, dark chocolate and burnt sugar. Robust and bitter. Resiny hops abound. The complex flavors develop as the brew warms. So does the alcohol burn. Big bitter resiny hop finish.
