Tap at brewery. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is licorice, light coffee or chocolate. Flavor is licorice, weak coffee, fennel. Wtf is this? They list it as a stout, RB as a black IPA. It’s neither. What is it?

Soapy cherry, peach, southern comfort nose. Hazy maroon, headless. Medicinal cherry flavor. Alcohol noticeable, light baody, watery, astringent. Listed as a stout, but it couldn’t possibly be one. Weird no matter how it’s classified and probably didn’t turn out as planned. Brown ale, perhaps?

Bottle from Queen City on 02/24/2009. Very clear black body with ruby highlights and a large rocky tan head. Sweet roast and molassas aroma with some chocolate notes. Sweet roast, dry chocolate and a bit of molassas with some papery hints. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Twelve ounce bottle from the brewery. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a medium, frothy head. Good head retention and lacing. Straightforward roasted malt aroma with some coffee notes. Taste is roasted malts with light coffee and bitter hops. Thin bodied.
