For a gluten free beer, this is somewhere in between Redbridge and St. Peter’s G-Free/Sorghum. It’s got a lot of sorghum character, which isn’t altogether pleasant, particularly for someone used to normal beer. It looks fine, though a bit boring and without much head, which is typical for gluten free brews. The flavor has decent floral hops that provide an okay bitter bite, and it’s relatively dry, which is a big plus compared to Redbridge’s somewhat cloying finish. The downsides of the flavor are a sorta gummy cough syrup note and an unpleasant sweetness upfront. Both are probably from the sorghum. Feel is pretty normal for a light lager - a bit fizzy. Ultimately, this beer, like every other gluten free beer I’ve tried, isn’t up to a decent craft beer, however it’s pretty good against its actual competition. Bard’s is a nice step up from Redbridge. Though not as good as St. Peters, it’s significantly cheaper and more widely available. Having close family members who suffer from Celiac disease, I’m grateful to any company that makes a beer that will make my mom smile and bring a bit of normalcy back to her life.

Pours copper with gold edges and loose thin white head lasting a good 40 seconds. The aroma has caramel, light dark fruitiness and a touch of graininess being run down by a wave of brown sugar. The taste begins bubbly sweet with brown sugar and light notes of grainy molasses and caramel. The carbonation gets a bit prickly staving off the overly sweet table sugar and brown sugar like notes. Behind the slick sweetness are mild notes of floral hops, earthy hops and plastic trashbag.

Bottled as Bard’s Gold from Bard’s Tale Beer Co., Utica NY. Sky blue double B label. The RB listing was very difficult to find, but this must be it. Weak honey aroma. Dark gold color, clear, no head. Honey and light wood flavor. Woody lemon grass finish. Great for a gluten free brew. It’s comforting to know that if I ever develop an allergy to wheat or gluten, I’ll still be able to enjoy a good beer.

Dark golden with a small white head. Sweet grainy malt aroma, with notes of nuts and prunes. Sweet fruity flavour, with a slightly sour fruit juice-like note. Considering the other ratings, it must have been oxidized. And that may not have been a bad thing...

Bottle: Pours a dark golden color with a smaller white head. Aroma is sweet and of malts and honey. Flavor is sweet and honeylike with a bit of caramel. Creamy mouthful. Can’t say it tasted real bad, but it lacked much definitive flavor overall.
