Our Cinnamon Raisin Commodore is truly a story of experimentation. Originally a gold-medal winning American stout first born in our R&D program, our brewers developed a new variation, adding cinnamon and raisins to this dark, bittersweet brew. The result is just the right amount of sweet and spice, with roasty maltiness at the helm.

Bottle - nearly black pour, moderate white lace - nose of cinnamon, dark fruit, espresso, cherry, smoke - drier than expected from the aroma, with a fair amount of bitterness and roast - a bit of tamarind, raisin, cherry - chocolate and smoke - not bad.

Tap at harry’s in San Jose. Wow - I just loved the warmth and complexity that this beer brought. Doughy, spicy, like a great after-dinner relaxer.

Bottle: Pours black, with a dark tan head. Cocoa, cinnamon scent. Taste is rather bitter.....chocolate malt, raw cinnamon, ash, old coffee.... Dry, bitter spicing and malts. Ok....but don’t expect a dessert-level beer....very bitter when cold....let it sit and warm for a while.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/7/2016. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisin, vanilla, caramel, toasted dark bread, and brown sugar; with lighter notes of coffee, toffee, smoke, char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and raisin/spice notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisin, vanilla, caramel, toasted dark bread, and brown sugar; with lighter notes of coffee, toffee, smoke, char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Moderate roast/char and pine/herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisin, vanilla, caramel, toasted dark bread, brown sugar, toffee, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and raisin/spice flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from roast/hop bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is an excellent spiced American stout! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and raisin/spice flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Quite a bit different than the base beer. Less hoppy and aggressively roasty/bitter; with more dark malty residual sweetness, letting the raisin/spices have good presence. A very enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle shared by DCLawyer. Thanks! Poured a dark, almost pitch black color with a small tan head. Aroma was roasted malts, light raisin. Light cinnamon notes. Flavor was not sweet, like just bitter cinnamon notes. Very light dry notes.

Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is pretty much all cinnamon with some graham cracker malt. Flavor is again a large amount of cinnamon with some vanilla and marshmallow. This was surprisingly flavorful. This was like drinking a smore in beer form.

On tap at the Temecula location. It pours a dark brown color with a light brown head. The aroma has some strong cinnamon and background notes of roasted malt and fruity raisin. The flavor has some nice chocolate and cinnamon. Cookie-like sweetness. Solid bitter, roasted finish. The cinnamon and raisin come out nicely. Well done.
