It’s been too long since you’ve spent time with your favourite people and are in the midst of them all at a get together at your home. You’re pleasantly overwhelmed by the cornucopia of scents and sounds around you. Everyone has walked with their favourite dish and roars of laughter can be heard from across the street. As you clink your bottle of a ginger Shandy Carib ginger with your father’s bottle of sorrel Shandy Carib, you take a moment to relish the memories being made.

The following weekend, deep-blue waves are in front of you, golden sand is sinking beneath your feet and your gaze is fixed upon the horizon. While sipping on a lime Shandy Carib, the crisp sea breeze whispers sweet nothings into your ear. The stress of a hectic week is washed away as the foam of the surf tickles your feet and then playfully retreats. This rejuvenating break is exactly what you needed!

A great lager beer is by itself a treasure but a great beer combined with the zing of ginger, the festive and spicy sweetness of sorrel or the revitalizing kick of lime creates winning and classic combinations. This is what the Carib brewery introduced in 1985 – an instant classic. The authentic taste of this light alcoholic beverage is a consumer favourite because its delightful and unique burst of flavours reconnects consumers with fun and memorable times with family and friends.

Bottle at home, very artificial red colour, no head. Aroma is fruit, sweet, lemonade, sugar. Taste is the same, very very sweet, sugar, that flavour they added and god so sweetm not bad though, as a lemonade...

Pours bright red cherryade colour. Aroma of the artificial sorrel, a bit of aniseed, quite sweet. Taste is that fake artificial flavour, a little pepperiness which gives it something but otherwise its not a good drink and no beer notes to be found. Light to moderate body, a little syrupy and the carbonation is flat if poured. Another one you are supposed to drink from the bottle.

Pours with carbonated clear red and soft pink foam, smells of strong sweet sorrel on the nose. Flavour is more sorrel, beer not detected. It's okay soda pop but missing the beer element.

Tastes like candy, blah. Way too sweet. Better off just adding sorrel to your beer.

Bottle from Tesco, Ipswich. Pours red/pink with a short lasting dark pink head. Aroma of peppery herb, berries, cherries and aniseed. Towards heavy sweetness, with a peppery bitterness bite to the tongue. Moderate body, sticky texture, average plus carbonation. Spicy medicinal finish. My goodness me, not one I will seek out again..

330ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Nov 17. Pours bright pink, thin pinkish head. Without reading the label I expected a cherry-like fruit character, but aroma is surprisingly spicy with some ginger, aniseed.. continues to taste. Light body. First Sorrel beer, and don't anticipate another on the horizon soon. Not actually that bad I guess.

Bottle from Tesco. Alarming colour: an almost fluorescent puce/pink. Lots of carbonation. Artificial bubblegum aroma. Sweet, sweet, and sweet, but there's a cough syrup spiciness from the artificial sorrel flavour. It's normally a flavour I like, but this is pretty terrible and nothing like a beer. It's at least kind of refreshing.
