22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/15/2015. Pours fairly crystal clear deep ruby red/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, apple, light nuttiness, bourbon, oak, vanilla, light herbal, and oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, apple, light nuttiness, bourbon, oak, vanilla, light herbal, and oak/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of bourbon/oak spiciness and light herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, brown bread, dark fruit, bourbon, oak, vanilla, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/bourbon/oak spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors for the gravity with minimal estery yeast notes present. Light carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and lightly creamy/slick/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with a light-moderate warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice barrel aged doppelbock style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Tap @ Hollywood. Clear brownish beer. Sweeter artificial olfactory. Cloying sweet volatile syrupy taste bud impact. This is a big beer fer sure. WEW! Strong ass kickin medicine. Quite rude to my girlie taste buds. Consciously cloyingly dizzy dude. Cannot appreciate.

The sampler, brooklyn tap: pours brown with a beige head. Aroma is vanilla and bourbon and malt. Taste is rather sweet with no real boozy notes in it. Boozy and whiskey aftertaste. Maybe too sweeet.

Bomber from Whole Foods in Napa, CA. Pours dark ruddy copper with a slight beige head that left quickly. Aroma of oak and bourbon. Full bodied; moderate carbonation. Flavor is roasty malt, oak and bourbon. The flavors blend wonderfully. It isn’t dry, but the heat is barely detectable, and the finish is very tasty. Great stuff. This from a former lager deprecator.

Poured up on tap at Angel’s Trumpet where it exhibits a clear copper body that supports a thin light tan head. The aroma offers up inviting molasses, brown sugar, caramel malts and then sweet dark fruity esters like prunes and figs. Nice. The taste delivers an initial soft palate before some booze and brighter raisin and plum notes hit and head toward midway. It picks a dash of hotness into the finish as the raisins esters and booze again brighten up the experience. Overall I am enjoying this as it has an English barleywine like aroma to it as well as a smooth sipping profile. Cool brew.
