Milk & Cookies Stout transports us to our childhood kitchens where freshly baked cinnamon-raisin cookies warmed us against winter nights and familiar grandparent voices permeate the sounds of the night. Hints of cold milk, sweet vanilla, and hearty oatmeal overwhelm and remind us that our memories are forever lead by our senses. In this case, we are led home.

50cl bottle pours a muddy black with some tan head. Nose has some malt, licorice, black pepper, cinnamon sticks, a little clove, chocolate, Dr Pepper. Flavor has more of the same, cola, chocolate, licorice, spice, cinnamon, vanilla, some graham cracker. Full bodied and sweet, but fairly drinkable too.

Bottle in Winter Park with Justin. Deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Aroma has notes of Hershey’s chocolate, metallic, chalk, and herbs. Moderate to moderate plus sweetness but certainly not cloying. Cinnamon and chocolate flavors. Pretty good in a small dose.

Draft at Sehkraft. Poured a dark brown color with a small white head. Aroma was a bit like a cookie - light oats. Flavor was dark fruits, roasted notes. Pretty tasty. Light roasted notes. Tasty.

Sample during the BCBS Tasting on 04/30/2016. The beer is a brown-black color with a medium foamy tan head that dissipates steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt, cinnamon and dark fruit. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, chocolate, raisin and cinnamon. The finish is cinnamon mocha and raisins. Good beer all around.

Bottle thanks to Rainer. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong cinnamon and raisin. Thick mouth, rich, cinnamon, cocoa, roast, chocolate, oatmeal, boozy finish, good.

Black beer. Thick light brown head. Decent retention but kinda fizzy. Some lacing. The aroma has sweet raisins, dough, cola, some nuttiness, a sweet caramel base and light roast. There’s a milk chocolate note, but it’s milder than expected. Definite vanilla with lighter cinnamon - comes out more as it warms in both aroma and taste and really improves the beer. When cold, the beer had a strong cola flavor that I didn’t really like, but the beer sheds most of that cola twang as it warms up and more of the spice and malt sweetness shows up. Taste is sweet and a bit simple. There’s nice vanilla and again muted cinnamon. Fairly simple milk chocolate sweetness. Some fruity roast knocking about. A touch of ash. The feel is definitely not right for this sort of beer. This beer should have a much thicker mouthfeel. I think that would cover for other issues. Unfortunately, it’s just a touch creamy and fairly light, and that makes the beer go in the direction of cloying. Not bad but not something I’d really want again.

Poured from a bottle dated 12/07/2015. Aroma is very similar to a cookie. Nice cinnamon and vanilla notes with medium light raisin character. Medium light chocolate note with lighter roast. Some moderate lactose notes present as well. Pours black with a moderately large, medium thick to thick, mocha head that exhibits decent retention as it recedes steadily. Light lacing and small legs. Flavor is rather sweet, but not cloying, with moderate chocolate notes. Some moderate cinnamon notes with lighter raisin and vanilla. Faint roast. Moderate lactose character. Medium light bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a very flavorful adjunct stout that really nails the cinnamon-raisin note that it was going for. I wish the mouthfeel were thicker though. Sweetness OS there but not cloying.
