Bottle, shared by Joe. Thanks! Pours black, with a small, bubbly, tan head. The aroma is milk chocolate, coconut, mild coffee, and maple. Sweet and syrupy, with a touch of bitterness. Fairly heavy body, with a thick, chewy, and malty palate. Solid, fun stout.

Intriguing, but more in how bourbon barrel aging smooths out the rough edges and shores up the lingering lactose sweetness. Caramel, cinnamon, and raisins give the beer more of a Coca-Cola vibe than milk and cookies, and the thin texture is in dire need of more heft. Modest bitterness on the finish keeps the pint from growing unbearably sweet, but I'm just not digging this pint.

$6.29 500ml bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma is cocoa, roasted malt, cream, metal. Flavor is creamy chocolate, vanilla, chocolate chip, raisin, oatmeal. Rather sweet, but not overly so.

Dark mahogany-to-ebony, seems to be of high clarity, with a light-tan head atop showing moderate retention.
Lactic acidity mixes with sweet toffee and caramel in the nose, as raisin puree-like notes and light plum/prune provide deeper complexity. Soft vanilla, sweetbread and a bit of ashy roast dot the finish, with no alcohol or flaw. Pretty cohesive, though a bit on the dry/acidic/fruity side, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
The flavor is more enjoyable than the nose, IMO, with soft, sticky, caramel-toffee-raisin-like malt flavors mixing with moderate amounts of lactose to give a dry, lightly acidic character that is complemented by more dark fruits and a strong roast character that gives the impression of creme brulee, on the finish. Light breadiness, moderate acidity and caramel linger nicely and the beer never gets too sweet, roasty or boozy, a big problem for many/most imperial stouts. Really nice use of lactose here, mostly because it’s used in moderation. Surprisingly drinkable for a beer of its size.
