In the past Port wine was shipped to the harbours of Bruges and Antwerp on wooden barrels of 650 liters, called ‘pipes’ or ‘pijpen’ in Dutch. Some of these barrels were purchased by Lambic breweries and have contained Lambic for many generations. Some barrels have been circulating in other, some defunct, Lambic breweries before finding their final place in the barrel cellars of Oud Beersel.
We have blended the finest Lambics of on average 20 months old matured on these ‘old pipes’ of between 60 and 120 years old, to create an Oude Geuze with the characteristics of these old barrels.

Near clear gold beer, small bubbly off white head. Light palate, a little dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Thin malts, a modest sweetness. The sharpness of the funk seems to be well offset by the very old Port Barrels, a touch of oak induced vanilla sweetness is enough to hold any acidity at bay. Bright crystallised fruits under the funk. Port? Yeah maybe a whisper of red berries if you are looking for it. If I was tasting this blind, I would never had guessed it was port BA. Light finish. A light smooth and very drinkable affair. My kinda sour.

2017. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Long moderate bitter finish. Creamy palate.

Bottle at Cask Days 2018. Stone fruit, light lemon, wet hay, and some great FUNK. Mouth feel is a little thin, carb is plentiful. Finish is quite sour, and mega funky. Slightly earthy, more stone fruit, especially apricot. beautiful.

(Bottle, 2017 vintage) Deep golden colour, slightly hazy, with foamy white head. Fruity, sourish nose with yellow apples, gooseberries, lemon, oak wood, horse blanket, hay, a touch of brett and herbs. Fruity, tart taste with notes of apples, gooseberries, lemon, hay, oak wood, barnyard and a dry finish with a fresh citric acidity. Low bitterness. Light body, dry. Fresh and tasty, with a good citric acidity combined with a mild wood character. Very nice.

Bottled (2017 vintage). Deep goldeny orange colour with a small white head. Aroma is tart wood, some funk, mild peach, apricot and some sourness too. Flavour is fruity, some funky, rather tart and sour with some mild acicity too. Nice fruity and some almost Riesling like tones to it.

Poured from 375mL bottle (2017 vintage). Clear-ish gold with small white head. Lots of funk, really nice subtle complexities, surprisingly nice bottle at a decent price. Nice finish to the night.

Vintage 2017, and limited edition green bottle. No polezalo sobie w piwnicy nieco, moze nie az tyle co beczki w ktorych dojrzewało. Musujace, piana poczatkowo sporawa, ale szybko sie redukuje, lekko metnawe, ciemno zlota barwa. W aromacie kwasne owoce, nieco zapachu wewnetrznej czesci skorzanego paska. W smaku kwasnosc i dzikosc od razu jest z tym jazda, fajna mineralnosc i musujace, piwu fermentacja dala sporo dwutlenku wegla. Wrazenie jakby to byl piwny szampan. Dochodzi gdzies w tle kapusta kiszona potraktowana limonkami czy cytrynami. fajowe na lato, doskonale ugasi pragnienie.

Bottle at home. Vintage 2017. Has a slightly hazy amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of oak, apple cider vinegar, stable, forest floor, rowanberries, citric acid, flowers, rose pepper and green apples. Flavour of apple cider vinegar, dried apricots, oak, forest floor, rowanberries and some hay. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a light bitterness. More spicy touch than most gueuzes I�ve tried. Tasteful and well-balanced.

Hazy to cloudy golden colour, poured with small head. The aroma is largely funky, horseblanket, light sulfur, there seem to be a note of vinegar too, though. Sharp acidity, it has a good degree of complexity, funky notes, old cellar, some fruity vinegar.
