Inspired by the alley cats who prowl the streets after dark, 9th Life Noir is our first ever black IPA.
It has all the citrusy, peppery, liquorice hoppiness of our regular 9th Life, but is jet black with a smooth, malty profile that has just the very lightest suggestion of the sort of roasty flavours you’d normally expect of a beer this dark.
Hops: First Gold, Columbus and Cascade

30/10/2025. Cask at Norwich Beer Festival (Castle Social). Good pour. Aroma is roasted, malted, citrus, aniseed, white pepper. Taste is very peppery, moderately sweet with underlying roasted bitterness. Very smooth, light carbonation. Liquorice and a peppery tingle in the finish. Interesting drop, and really rather nice.
