Off-red in color with a fluffy, long-lasting head and full aromas of fruit, bubblegum and spice. The caramel backbone of the malty body provides the deception of fullness, however, the finish is dry. The delicate citrus and distinctive bitterness intertwine with the warmth of alcohol and deep rum tones, finishing with a hint of cocoa. Simon Girty becomes more intense at room temperature and may be cellared for up to five years. A very different beer for those brave enough to try. Simon Girty....the person: One of the most pivotal and controversial figures in American history, Simon Girty, primarily through savage guerilla warfare, fought for what he believed to be right. He was noted as a “turncoat” and most often referred to as the “White Savage”. His bravery, courage and reputation, made him a common household name throughout the colonial period. Girty’s Run, which is a tributary of the Allegheny River, was named after Simon. The stream travels directly through the heart of Millvale and was once his passage way to the north. In honor and as a sign of respect, we have developed this beer for the free spirited individuals like Simon. We hope this minor tribute is enough to show our respect...Enjoy!

At the brewery: pours murky light brown with a beige head and it dissipates kind of fast. Aroma is a tad funky, plenty of dark fruitz. Taste is a tad sweet, a bit bit sour. Body is not too heavy. Not my favourite of the Draai Laags.

a plum colored beer with a bit of cloudiness. vinegar aroma, faint but there, not much else throwing off from aroma. Tastes like cold brew, a lot of chocolate as the beer leaves the palette with some dark fruits. maybe even a bit of cinnamon. Very interesting. not sure I could drink a lot.

Draft - Dirty earthy notes and cocoa. Dirty brown with a small white head. Light up front tartness and soured earthy. It’s not pleasant to me.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is caramel, dark fruit, oak. Thin body, similar flavors to nose, light tartness, very good.

750 mL bottle from the brewery. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin tan head. Fair head retention. Weak aroma of caramel malts, stone fruits and a bit of chocolate. The taste is caramel, nutty notes, raisin, stone fruits, spice. Medium bodied, low carbonation. The commercial description says I have to be "brave" to try this. Mmm... no. I’m tempted to deduct a point for their pretentiousness, but I’ll refrain. It’s actually a decent beer.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a large soapy-creamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet bread, toffee and plum. The flavor was sweet and tangy raisin, toffee, caramel, brandy, toasty malts and a hint of cream. Long finish of raisin, toffee, brandy and cream. Moderately full bodied. Quite nice.

I love the way local brewers are making it big. Had this at the bocktown monaca; nice place and nice beer tasting atmosphere. This is my first dry log considering there is on ly two listed so far and it did make an impression on this ratebeerians. Looks like darker iced tea. Nice mellow aroma with a little alky punching thru. It says belgian, so I’m thinking this could not be by default, no? A little unrefined. Yes, from the start it is a little strong. Does have some beldgy attitude but for the most part its less civilized than the stuff from the old world. Is orval in this ssame category? Sweet attitude on the finish. Very little co2 but its there. Not too sure what to think of this wnaah be. We should call this in a new sttyleas an americanized belgian ale. Then it would get in the top 10.
