The sun is out, the pool is open, and our Watermelon Gose is in cans and on the way to a store near you just in time for summer.
Inspired by salted watermelon, a summer treat, Terrapin Beer Co. set out to brew a Gose perfect for summer sipping. The beer has a watermelon aroma, a distinct lactic tartness and subtle watermelon flavor. Pour this beer into a stange glass, or drink it straight out of the can. Pairs well with light summer dishes like Thai shrimp and watermelon salad.

12 ounce can from Festival Northland, 9/2/19. I don't like H20Melon but a tick's a tick. Hazy yellow. large foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of brine, watermelon rind, pale malt. Taste is melon, lemon, salt, brine, pale malt. Medium bodied, lingering tartness. Crisp. Nice summer beer.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 12/30/2019. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of juicy, lightly tart/tangy watermelon, cucumber, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with light notes of biscuit, dough, peppercorn, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of watermelon, fruity/acidic yeast, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big juicy, fairly tart/tangy watermelon, cucumber, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with light notes of biscuit, dough, peppercorn, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang, and light spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy watermelon, cucumber, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of watermelon, fruity/acidic yeast, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness and tangy fruit balance; with no puckering flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tartness and tangy fruit. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderate bready/grainy, acidic/tangy, and lightly saline balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a delicious fruited gose. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of watermelon, fruity/acidic yeast, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, refreshing, and fairly crisp/clean to drink with the modestly acidic/tangy/drying finish; not overly lactic/salty. Great balance between authentic juicy watermelons, and Lacto complexity; with a nice pale/wheat malt backbone for the ABV. Mild residual sweetness with crisp acidic dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

On tap at Terrapin, pours a hazy golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out crisp watermelon skins, with a touch of salt and subdued lacto. Flavour is along the same lines, with punchy watermelon upfront, along with lacto and salt. Crisp and lightly tart. Nicely done.

A lightly hazed blonde ale with a thin thick lacing frothy white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with light watermelon notes, light grassy hops, light mineral notes, OK. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light watermelon notes, light lemon notes, pleasant and smooth. On tap at Lee's Grocery, Tampa.

Great melon aroma and flavor combination of sourness, slightly sweet melon, cucumber, and salt. One of my favorite beers.

Tap at Gambrinus. Pours a light gold with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Lemony nose with a touch of grain and watermelon rind. Lots of watermelon on the palate. Super hazy golden coloured body with almost no head at all, just a touch of a pure white layer atop. Aroma of watermelons, wheat, citrus, vinegar, light malt and a dose of pure sugar. Super Light-bodied; Strong watermelon and malt notes at first with a relatively large bitterness at first that dies after the sweet and slightly salty notes kick in. Aftertaste shows some more wheat and coriander seed, some grass and grain and another light bout of sweetness and a bunch of watermelon freshness, mixed with just a dash of salt. Overall, a nice offering, that shows the style well, has some good watermelon flashes, but just gets a touch too bitter and malty. I sampled this sixteen ounce pour on draught at Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 21-June-2017 for US$5,00 sampled at the end of my driveway.
