Russian invasion! And that's not about the Falcon square or a Russian submarine in the port. No, an experiment of our brewer Dennis has seriously gotten out of control. Result: The Russian Imperial Stout! In the brewery known as Black Magic. Dark as the night and a troika of bitter, toasted and sweet. A foaming czar, a bear-like beer.

From tap at Bierencafé De Heks, Deventer. Aroma is dark roasted malt, coffee, salty liquorice, salmiak, some dark chocolate, dark fruity and herbal notes. Flavour is medium sweet with some roasty bitterness in the finish. Body is above medium. I expected very little, but this is not a bad Imperial Stout!

(Draught at Kulminator, Antwerpen, 18 May 2017) Black colour with lasting, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with liquorice, dark fruit, blueberries and dark chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, blueberries and a fairly dry finish with a balanced roasty bitterness. Full body, mainly dry. Tasty and rich, fairly well balanced for its power. Very nice.

At Zythos 2017. Pours black with a low beige head. Aroma is strongly coffee and roasted malts, chocolate. Body is heavy, sweet and a bit sticky, yet nkr overpowered. Palate lingers sweetly. Good.

@ LIBF 2016. Dark brown/black colour, beige foam. Nose of roasted malts, coffee, caramel and sweetness. Rather sweet stout, I like it more roasty, but not bad.
