Inspired by the fields of Provence in southern France, Bière de Provence begins with 2-row wheat and rye malts, and Jarrylo hops. A bounty of herbs, including lavender, bay leaf, marjoram and chervil, gives it a floral and spicy nose. With a hazy golden appearance, Bière de Provence is fermented using a Belgian yeast strain lending to a sweet and malty flavor profile. This summer saison has a smooth finish with a flavor that’s just as complex as it is crisp and refreshing.

Draft at SAVOR 2016, poured by Sam himself. Poured a golden color with a light haze to it. Head was very small. Aroma had some herbal notes, grassy character, touch of light lemon notes. Barnyard funk notes. A touch more herbal than I normally enjoy.

12 ounce bottle. Billed as a Saison with lavender, marjoram and bay leaves. Bottle says 8.3 ABV. Deep honey gold color topped by a moderate mousse-like white head. Fragrant herbal malt nose. Notes of lavender and bay leaves stand out. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor is dominated by the herbs. Dry and spicy, as advertised. Boozy notes in finish. Unlike most Saisons I have enjoyed, but decent.

Pours hazy copper with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, spices, yeast and some fruitiness. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long dry, spiced, caramel and yeasty finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at the brewpub. A hazy, orange colored beer with a small, off-white head. The aroma is quite herbal, with a nice citrus touch and some malts. Herbal flavor with some dried fruits, pale malts and a nice bitterness. Full body and a nice carbonation level. Lasting herbal finish with herbal bitterness, some dried fruits and a touch of malts. Unusual this one, but a nice herb beer. 150621
