Some refer to the Dunkel style as the original bier of Munich and its surrounding villages (Dörfer). This everyday bier ranges in color and sweetness depending on the amount of Munich and roasted malts used. The sweetness of the malt is then balanced by the use of another Bavarian friend…the Hallertau hop…in this specific case, Hersbrucker, grown near Wolnzach, Hallertau.

500 ml bottle. Reddish ebrown color topped by a large rocky beige head. Sharp toasted malt nose has caramel notes. Soft malty flavor has notes of caramel, chocolate and nuts. Spicy hops in mid taste and finish. Very reminiscent of the Bavarian Dunkel style. Quite good.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton MO. Pours amber with a large, creamy, yellow/beige head. Aroma of noble hop and smooth, roasty malt. It’s sweet, malty, fruity, near grassy. Tastes good. Seems a bit grapey.
