A smooth and smoky German Oktoberfest. As a twist on the traditional Fest lager from Munich, we added a portion of beechwood smoked malt imported from Bamberg, Germany. The smoky flavor and aroma melds with the rich and complex maltiness while the lager yeast adds nice bready notes. The malt is subtlely balanced with German noble hops Hallertau Tradition and Mittlefruh.

Poured into a tulip, at Bluebird Barbeque, Burlington, VT.
The appearance was a ruggedly dark brown color with a slim bar pour’s kind of white head that just slides out into oblivion.
The aroma takes on dried cherries, smoked malt, some woody notes, slightly like oak.
The flavor starts smokey sweet with the smoked malts up front and then the cherries bending on into the woodiness, that part seems to blend well. Decent smoked semi-sweet aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Mild carbonation leans upon the smoke and the sweet smooth maltiness rolling over my tongue.
Overall, very nice smoked beer that I would have again.

Growler. Clear amber body. Fizzy, white head rapidly diminishing. Big aroma of smoked bacon with hints of toasted grain, biscuit. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, moderate carbonation. Smoke dominates aroma and flavor and it’s meaty, but not so much so that other characteristics disappear. They’re muted, but still there. Could have used more carbonation, but I suspect it lost carbonation by being poured poorly into the growler which was only three-quarters filled. Thanks Wes.
