Collaborative effort from the Country Boys of Lexington, KY and Louisville’s Against the Grain Brewery. Stylistically a Baltic Porter, this opaque black lager is brewed with a blend of Pilsner and Maris Otter base malts, while the dark color and roasty flavor comes from both caramel and chocolate malts. Clean hop bitterness and spicy aroma is achieved by an early boil addition of Magnum hops and a late addition of Czech Saaz. Fermented cold with a lager yeast strain for an authentic, bold and well rounded flavor.

Buena.

Black Squirrel, DC tap: pours dark brown with a light beige head. Aroma is light chocolate and some light coffee and fruitiness. Super light taste. Light coffee in the finish. Super light bodied for what this is. Not bad.

Tap at Gambrinus. Pours a deep black with ruby highlights and no head. Cocoa powder, blueberry and earthiness on the nose. Surprisingly tart on the palate; even for a baltic. Blueberry, lingonberry with a tart waxiness. Light on the palate with some light muscat and coffee. Interesting. --- Beer merged from original tick of Saladbarity on 22 Nov 2016 at 01:16 - Score: 6. Original review text: Quite tart on the palate. Blueberry, lingonberry with a tart waxiness. Light for a Baltic on the palate. Sour grapes.

4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey during the SAVOR Week 4 Hands / Against The Grain tap takeover thanks to Travlr for a leftover taster of this. A pretty malt forward Porter, lighter in color than I expected. Roasted malts, light creamy mineral notes.

Light roast and some raw barley. Some coffee. Black pour with good head and lacing. Ok but not a super fantastic Baltic porter. Tap at Churchkey.
