This truly unique American sour ale begins by taking our Brother David’s Triple wort from the kettle and adding it to wine barrels to undergo a 100% barrel fermentation with wild yeast and bacteria. After several months, a healthy dose of black currants is added and the beer begins an extended aging process in the barrel until it has matured and reached the perfect balance of sourness and complexity. Thribble Currant pours to a deep burgundy color with a bracing sourness and subtle sweetness with hints of oak, dark fruit, and wild berry.

Draft at Mellow Fellow King’s Beach. Pretty reddish amber color, see pic please. Aroma of blackcurrant. Taste is softly sour fruit, only slightly boozy. I know what a tribble is, but what’s a thribble?

Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a dark red color with a trace foamy pink-white head that left no lacing. The aroma was tart and sour with vinegar, red wine, vague fruits and a hint of soy sauce. The flavor was tart, sour, dryish, very astringent and had light notes of berry and grape. Very long finish. Light to medium body. Ok.

Draft. Reddish purple color with a moderate off-white head. The nose is mostly wine barrel, some oak, and a sour/tart vibe. Flavor is sour; wine barrel and a little bit of the currants. Effervescent. More like a wine barrel saison… not much tripel comes through.

On tap at the 2016 SF beer week opening gala. It pours a dark reddish cherry color with an off white head. The aroma is full with cherries and a little spicy funk. The flavor is strong, very sour and fruity. Lots of dark sour fruit. Cherries and currants, fresh and natural. A little oaky barrel and phenolic funk near the finish, but this one is really all about the fruit. The alcohol is barely noticeable. So good. One of my fav’s of the night.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours rather ruddy with an off-white head. Aroma is light sourish berry (I’m not talented with currants). Med body. Flavor is very tart, very berry, very towards horse blanket. Another very good one from AV.
