Prairie Rue is a collaboration that was born out of years of admiration and friendship between the founders of Prairie Artisan Ales and The Bruery. Using hops chosen for their lemony and floral aroma plus 100% Munich malt, this farmhouse ale was barrel-fermented in oak with several strains of brettanomyces, revealing pleasant wafts of prairie grains, orange blossom honey and lemony-floral funk. A refreshing, crisp bready backbone is complimented by a balance of citrus hop flavors and woody, earthy flavors and spice characters. When thinking about this beer, it’s hard to say whether it’s more of a Prairie beer or a Bruery Terreux beer. And that’s exactly how collaborations should be.

Sample at GABF 09/26/2015, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Cloudy amber color with a thin bone white head that recedes steadily to a film. Patches of lacing. Aroma of tropical fruit, yeast, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of melons, grassy hops, yeast and bready malt. The finish is fruity up front with an earthy yeast aftertaste. Above average overall.
