Bottle from Albertsons. I didn’t buy this, have actually been avoiding it. Pretty bland, tastes like slightly fizzy grapefruit juice. Hazy, milky golden body, not much of a finish either. This might work on a super hot day as a thirst quencher, but not right now.

Bottle at America on Tap Cloudy light golden color. Huge grapefruit and bitter pith in the aroma and flavor. Honestly tastes like grapefruit juice more than beer. Not a fan.

Keg pour at powder keg beer and chili festival. Aroma is fruit/grapefruit. Appearance is cloudy/hazy yellow with mild head with poor retention, trace lacing. Taste is nice medium sweet grapefruit. Palate is light to medium bodied with thin texture with nice carbonation that is very refreshing--perfect for a hot summer day. Overall, I liked this way more than I thought I would--not much of a shandy fan. But, for a certain setting, I could see this hitting the spot. Kind of an alcoholic Fresca.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 2/2016. Pours very hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of ruby red grapefruit, lemon peel, light pepper, wheat, cracker, light honey, light herbal/grass and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of grapefruit/lemon, pale malt, and light earthy hop/yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of big ruby red grapefruit, lemon peel, light pepper, wheat, cracker, light honey, light herbal/grass, and yeast earthiness. Light lemon peel bitterness and grapefruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, lemon peel, wheat, cracker, light honey, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Very nice balance and robustness of grapefruit/lemon, pale malt, and light earthy hop/yeast ester flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate amount of dryness after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present as expected of 4.4%. Overall this is a very good grapefruit shandy style. All around good robustness and balance of grapefruit/lemon, pale malt, and light earthy hop/yeast ester flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. As Illusive Traveler Grapefruit Ale. Pours very hazy, somewhat dirty, gold with a very slight head. Aroma seems more orange/lemon than grapefruit. Med minus body. Flavor is kind of citrus candy, except there is citrus zest, and it is bitter. Probably ok on a really hot day, but it isn’t really appealing. And I love grapefruit.

12 oz bottle from a six pack. Aroma is grapefruit, vomit, generic beer, bread. Pours cloudy orange with a medium white head with good retention. Taste is sweet (was expecting tart), grainy, grapefruit, wheaty, finishes dry and lightly bitter. Creamy mouthfeel, thin body. I thought the scores on here were low for this. Beer snobs tend to look down on these shandies and radlers, after all. I was expecting a refreshingly tart beer with strong grapefruit flavor. After drinking it, I know the low scores this is getting are well-deserved! It’s not terrible, but I thought it was going to be one of those underrated beers that I tend to like. Not so.

Bottle. A- Grapefruits, grapefruit juice, slightly tart, bitter. A- Orange color, cloudy liquid, white head. T- Grapefruit juice, bitter, slightly sour, slightly tart. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Nothing artificial tasting about this one. This is full on grapefruit. If you are a fan of pure grapefruit juice then this is going to be a hit with you. Otherwise you’ll probably hate it. But for a shandy, this is quite okay in my book. A little salt or sugar on the glass rim and it would be really enjoyable. Maybe my new breakfast beer.
