De Ranke Donk pours black in our belgian goblet, but due to the midnight wheat demonstrates no roast character usually associated with black beers. Notes of ripe fruit and white pepper dominate the forefront but are balanced by softer notes of fresh dough and toffee from the large percentage of wheat and dark candi syrup.
The name De Ranke Donk originated from Brasserie De Ranke, the Belgian Brewery's bottle from which Hellbender propagated the saison strain, and the dark candi syrup we used labeled "Donker," Dutch for "dark."

Draft at Roofers Union. Pretty much black color, tan head. Aroma has light funk and ripe dark fruit on a background of roast. Taste has lightly funky roast, mixed berries. Very tasty.
