Our Orange Vanilla Fathom India-Style Pale Lager continues our quest for exploration. The piney and citrus hop aromas of our India-Style Pale Lager combine with sweet orange and creamy vanilla - while staying true to classic lagering techniques. Brewed with a touch of nostalgia, it may remind you of a childhood treat, but this one is just for adults.

Sample at the taproom. Clear golden color with a medium thick white head that recedes gradually to a film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of oranges, vanilla and malt. Medium body with flavors of orange, roast malt, vanilla and yeast. The finish is like a creamsicle. Above average overall.

So the Creamsicle thing is spot-on, but runs too sweet for comfort, too much artificial orange and vanilla overpowering the hops and lager notes. Gimmicky as hell, as is Ballast Point’s forte these days. Grows increasingly cloy as it warms, with the orange and vanilla refusing to budge from my palate. Getting annoyed. Skip it.

From bomber to pint glass. Flavor is orange marmalade with a creamy vanilla backing. Pours a clear golden with moderate low white head that retains as a collar of moderate large bubbles and very little lacing. Taste is artificial orange and medicinal vanilla - when you read the Creamsicle aspect....you kind of get it. Interesting if not stunning.

Sampled from the tap at All Pints North. Pours a clear gold with a tan head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has bitter citrus, some vanilla and biscuit underlying. Flavor has an interesting vanilla orange mix with some bread and biscuit underlying.

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours orange tinged gold with a white head. Aroma of orange zest and perhaps vanilla. Med body. Flavor is orange zest and vanilla. Interesting. Where do these ideas come from? There’s also a little roasty malt.

On tap at Sedona. The taste is absolutely an orange creamsicle - both of us agreed on this without looking at what we were drinking (taste first, look at flight list after). Lots of vanilla in the back end too. This took me back to very young years.

It’s a creamsicle. Sweet over the top oranges and cream. The mouth isn’t horrible.

Bottle shared at AA. Orange creamsicle notes with a touch of tangerine. Zest citrus on the palate, but not overly bitter or tart. Creamy, soft mouthfeel. Smooth and citrusy with the vanilla shining on the finish. Very nice. --- Beer merged from original tick of Orange Vanilla Fathom on 04 Sep 2016 at 17:10 - Score: 7. Original review text: Big orange zesty nose. Creamy Creamy vanilla on the palate. Solid!
