Old Carlsberg Porter has an almost oily-fat filling and appears black with tight mocha colored foam. The taste is sweet with a hint of dry bitterness. The aroma is powerful with notes of licorice root, newly roasted coffee, bitter chocolate and warming alcohol.

Can shared at CBC 2014 base camp. Pours rich black-brown with a thick, lasting beige cream head; honestly, you can’t fault this beer on appearance. The aroma has moderate roast, some sugary chocolate, dark fruits, prunes. Medium to big sweet flavor with rich, fairly sugary milk chocolate, hints of burnt earth, raisins, cocoa. Medium to full bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish with hints of alcohol warmth, chocolate cake, slight charred wood bitterness, milk chocolate, ripe dark fruits, prunes, dark bread. Fairly robust. For a supermarket canned beer, this is pretty impressive. In absolute terms, this is very solid.

Can split with JF at a Sue’s away mini tasting in the ’Sham, 11/03/14, big thanks to Jan (fonefan) for this extra in our trade - surprise beer of the evening! Pitch black with a big dirty tan head that retains well. Nose is big roast, earthy cocoa, toffee, molasses, lightly singed brown sugars. Taste comprises big roast malt notes, bitter dark chocolate, molasses, dark toffee fudge, burnt sugars, light mineral twang, faint coffee. Medium + bodiment, fine carbonation, drying roasty close. Decent baltic, wasn’t sure what I would be getting here having not looked at the ratings prior to drinking but this was a turn up for sure!

50cl. Can from Super Best. Pours black with a small beige head and lacings. Strong liquorice, roast, chocolate cookies and a whiff of spices. Smooth and rich. Bitter roasted finish. Richer and more complex than Carls Porter.

Black with very little browny white head. (quickly disappearing) Aroma and taste of roasted malts - liqourice and chocolate. The porters texture is very thin. The finish is OK but not long lasting. Some bitterneess and a bit of smoke!

(Bottle, Rosie McGee’s, Copenhagen, 10 July 2013) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice and dark bread. Malty, roasted taste with dark rye bread, liquorice, dark chocolate, black coffee and a balanced roasty bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Well made and tasty porter. Even Carlsberg can if they want to, apparently. Nice one.
