A vibrant Belgian fruit beer, bursting with ripe raspberry, soft spice and gentle sweetness. Juicy, lightly tart and refreshing with a smooth body and a playful fruity finish.

The follow-up to that miserable Cherry Chouffe, launched a year ago seemingly in an attempt to compete with Kasteel Rubus Framboise - which makes things even more miserable in my opinion. Steinie bottle with the familiar gnome on the crown cap, bought months ago at a Delhaize supermarket - only now I find the courage to open it. Thick and frothy, pale yellowish beige, busily 'kant'-like lacing, firm head on a crystal clear, warm copper red robe with fiery orangey-glowing tinge. Aroma of red Haribo candy, grenadine, melting granulated sugar, artificial raspberry essence (as in raspberry candy rather than raspberry jam, for instance), candy apple, natural rubber, fresh rainwater, damp (processed) wool - but close to nothing 'beery', even less so than in Cherry Chouffe if my memory serves me right. Very sweet onset, lots of 'bubblegumminess' and banana, and lots of red candy sugariness sticking to the teeth, drenched in this artificial raspberry 'poepkens' flavour. Generic red or purple 'fruit' candy dominates the rest, sticky and sugary but still with a tad of lemonade-like ascorbic sourishness for balance, though not for any natural flavour; a bready maltiness can very thinly be felt underneath, but hops are almost completely buried under this artificial raspberry aroma and sugariness. Just like Van Honsebrouck's Rubus, launched two years before this one, was another variant on the generic 'rouge' theme (marketing-wise a clever one too, I must admit), this is nothing but Cherry Chouffe with a slightly altered flavour - but who cares if this one smells more like artificial raspberry aromas than artificial cherry aromas if no natural aroma of fruit is there? Bereft of all things beery, this 'rouge' hype is one I hate with a passion - why did I even bother buying this in the first place...

Bottle from Westhill Service Station. It pours clear ruby with a decent fluffy white head. The aroma is sweet, juicy, super jam, ripe raspberry, tangy, zingy, jam roly poly, gummy candy, fruit wine and berry compote. The taste is juicy, jammy, sweet, tangy, loads of raspberry, candy, slightly vinous, fruit cake, quite bright, sour candy, white sugar, apple skin and hint of alcohol with a jammy raspberry finish. Average body and moderate carbonation. Fairly one dimensional, but decent enough. Doesn't come across particularly artificial.

Barwa miedziana, niemal klarowne, piana w kolorze zabrudzonej bieli, niezbyt obfita, średnio trwała.
W aromacie malina, nieznaczne akcenty belgijskie.
W smaku słodkie, bardzo malinowe, nieznaczne taniny, mało akcentów belgijskich, niska kwaskowość.
Goryczka niska, wysycenie średnie, ciała nieco za dużo, średnia pijalność.
Za słodkie, za mało przełamania.

Fles thuis geprobeerd. Het is een helder rood bruinig bier met een roze schuim. Het heeft een aroma van snoep frambozen. De smaak is vol fruitig en zoet met een fris frambozen zuurtje.

Sampled at Joen. Dark red color, small beige head. Aroma is artificial raspberry but the flavor is less artificial and actually drinkable though pretty sweet as expected. Oh well, glad I just had to drink a few sips and not a whole bottle haha.

330ml bottle from the local supermarket. Not often a new Chouffe comes along. This tastes exactly like you expect, treading the same path as Kasteel Framboise but perhaps not as sweet and rich, just enough syrupy raspberry purée here, moderately sweet with a light yeast touch in the shadows. Ok.

On tap at Hops, Crewe. Pours a bright ruby with minimal off-white head. There’s a sweet and fruity aroma with hints of raspberries and ribena. In the mouth it is sweet and juicy with s creamy texture. Flavour is mainly raspberries but with hints of malts, dark fruits and strawberries. A little bitterness in the fruity finish. I don’t normally go for fruit beers but this is decent – not too fruity.
