Our 30th Anniversary Ale is a testament to three-plus decades of hard-work. It honors all that has helped us get to this point – hard work, quality and authenticity.
It reminds us of where we’ve been, how we’ve grown over the years, the challenges we’ve faced and at the same time, looks forward to what comes next.
Also a nod to another Bell's favorite, Expedition Stout, flavors of dark chocolate and fruit meld to create a full-bodied, roasty stout.
A fair amount of Polaris hops lend a brightness and a nice character that will help carry the beer in its early stages making it incredibly drinkable and interesting. Malt characteristics will continue to develop over time, so that beer drinkers who choose to cellar it can enjoy the beer for years to come.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with bitter black chocolate notes is quite nice. Taste is a robust mix of roasted malt with some string black chocolate notes with some bitterness and light residual sugar notes. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no real apparent alcohol notes. Quite the robust imperial stout with not as much residual sugar as I was expecting which might be a good thing as it increase the overall drinkability.

Draft at The Beer Grotto in Ann Arbor, I think. Deep black body, thick tight light brown head. Dense, syrupy body, lots of marshmallowy burnt sugars and bitter/acrid roast. Inky, sweet, bitter. I thought at the time this beer might be better with a little age.

Bottle split at Leighton's 20K, big thanks to the man of the moment, 01/03/17. Black with a well appointed tan cap. Nose is chocolate milkshake, light spice, umami, charr, mellow roast. Taste comprises chocoalte, earthy tones, spice, black pepper, dark fruit rinds, chewy toffee. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a mellow boost. Decent well rounded impy stout.

Mbcc, blue. Black, thin brown head. Boozy, malty, roasty malty. Oat, roast, hops, oat and sweetness, some ash. Nice.

From tap. Pours hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty, dark chocolate and dense breadish to roasted malty. Roasted, chocolate and slight breadish. Bitter, dry, roasted, burned malty. Dark and almost acidic roasted. lingering roasted malty finish.

Draft. A black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocoltae, roasted malt, bread, and alcohol, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Bottle at Leighton’s crib for his 20K celebrations. It pours jet black with a small dark tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, dark fruits, jammy action, fruit compote, vanilla, coffee cake and green banana. The taste is rich roasted malt, toasty, charred wood, rocky road, vanilla fudge, toffee, warming alcohol, coffee cake and a touch of smoke. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth - feel. Pretty rich with a decent coffee character. Decent stuff.

Leighton’s 20K at his posh new gaff! Thanks to our host for this one. Opaque dark brown beer, good dark tan head. Palate is airy, semi dry and has decent fine carbonation. Fluffy dark chocolate malts, dark chocolate getting slightly bitter. Tangy dark fruits. Some spice. Bitterish finish brings a trace of brandy. Nice.

Bottle shared in London for the 20k - picked up in trade. Pours deep brown with a creamy beige head. Moderate roast in the nose, dry chocolate, scorched earth. Medium sweet flavour with notes of milk hocolate, some earth, dried fruits. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish with burnt toast, dates, burnt caramel, milk chocolate. Enjoyable stuff for sure.
