Absence of Light is a milk stout brewed with peanut butter. Chocolate malt dominates the grain bill, backed up by a combination of caramel malts and roasted barley. This provides a very rich, complex flavor with notes of chocolate, coffee, peanut butter and a slightly sweet finish.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with medium creamy beige head that lasts. The aroma is cocoa, roast, peanut butter. Medium body, peanut butter, chocolate, roast, light dry finish, very good.

16 oz can from Tavour, 11/7/19. Brown pour, small head, light lace. Sweet chocolate malt flavor, subtle peanut butter. Drinks on the light side, slightly sticky. Soft carbonation, easy drinker. Pretty good. 7/3/7/4/15 Updated 7/24/20. With a few additional months on it the sweetness has mellowed out a bit and I think the flavor has improved. Time to up the score a touch. 7/3/8/4/16

Bomber from Tavour. Black pour with a slight foamy head, fades to flat. Aroma is peanut butter, hint of chocolate. Taste builds out the peanut butter cup vibe, sweet, nutty and dark chocolate. Smooth and slick, and really delicious.

Draft taster pour at the brewery. Appearance is opaque black with no discernible sparkle, thin ring of off-white head and no lacing. Aroma is peanut butter. Taste is strong peanut butter and mild milk chocolate. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, there's not a lot of complexity to the base stout and the flavor is pretty moderate so their adjuncts tend to dominate, which is no exception here. If you love peanut butter, then this is great. If you're looking for something more nuanced and complex, you're likely to be disappointed.

750 mL bottle poured. A monstrous thanks to Greg for sending me this bottle. A top want, even though I might not have ever mentioned it. This is what a peanut butter beer is supposed to be. Jet black pour. Tan fizz head and constant lacing. Aroma is full of milk chocolate, and peanuts. Flavor is both bold and sweet. Dessert peanut butter chocolate flavor. So delicious. Slight toast. A model beer for the style. Amazing.

Bottle. Pours a clear mahogany color with a medium brown head. A big sweet sticky peanut and chocolate nose. The flavor is dominant peanuts, toffee, chocolate, very sweet. Vanilla. Interesting. Very decadent.
