Once a year, on a night very much like tonight, when the days are at their shortest and a certain playful madness seems to encompass the Blue Mountains, we allow ourselves the joy of brewing an IPA just for the crazy ones. Like us.
Black IPAs have long held wonder for brewers and drinkers alike due to their juxtaposition and complexity. They’ve often sparked apprehension and bewilderment in our sales and marketing team.
This year, we’ve gone with a thicker, heavier malt base, with a hint of chocolate and freshly roasted coffee. We combined our best West Coast hops - Chinook, Citra, and Simcoe,to create a citrus and pine-forward flavour profile that juts out at right angles from the malty base.

500ml can from Mountain Culture, Redfern, Sydney. Poured a murky almost black colour with a thin off-white head. The aroma is roasty, light sweet, with a smooth, rich, roasty, dry, earthy, hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Over medium bodied with average carbonation.
