Freeride

A golden amber ale with a thin white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with refreshing floral hops, classic. In mouth, a dry crisp biscuit malt with grassy floral hops, a bit light but good for summer. On tap at Downtown Brew fest LV 2013.

Bottle: Clear dark copper color with a large, creamy beige head. Decent bits of lacing. Has all the qualities I like in what could be a daily drinker. Nose is bright with citrus and resin, light malt presence. A flavorful taste, but not over the top. Good citrus and resin and again I’m only lightly aware of the caramel malts. Good stuff, I’d drink this again any time.

Aroma: The nose of this one is pretty hoppy, with some pine/grass, citrus, and a bit of spice
Appearance: It pours an orange color with a small foam of off-white head and some spotty lace
Flavor: The flavor is dry and bitter up-front and lightly sweet, the bitterness fades in the finish
Palate: The body is medium, it has some stickiness, plus carbonation, and a shortish duration
Overall Impression: This is a more than solid APA, that I may even have given a higher score, except the hop flavor just doesn't sustain through the whole palate. Other than the brevity of the flavor, I don't have many complaints. Nice stuff.

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and summer fruit aroma with light caramel. Earth and light grainy flavor with grapefruit and light pine. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and light grain lingers with light pine.

12 oz bottle from Country Club Liqours. Nose is mostly citrus with a slight papaya note. Lightly hazy gold with a big offwhite head. Flavor is only lightly bitter with a Bud lagery note in the background.

Crisp bronze coloured body with a bright copper glow and a thinnish, one centimetre tall tan head and zillions of bubbles rising from the bottom. Aroma of citra hops, with hints of grapefruit and citrus, but plenty of bright pungent notes and some solid malt in the back. Medium-bodied; Nice balance of malt and hops up front gives way to a citra and relatively pungent hop character that doesn’t last long, just shows up for a tiny bit of bitterness. Aftertaste shows a good balance, some light sweetness and a dry finish with more of the emphasis on hops. Overall, a nice APA with a good balance throughout and some solid hybrid hop variety flavours coming through. I sampled this twelve ounce stubby bottle purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 23-May-2013 for US$1.80 sampled at home in Washington on 25-June-2013 - well worth bringing back to the opposite end of the country.

12 oz bottle from a six pack bought at Super 1 in Rathdrum, ID. Pours almost clear copper with a medium off-white head with decent retention; leaves a little lace. Aroma is mostly catty with a little pine, citrus, bread. Taste is bittersweet with an emphasis on bitter. More citrusy in flavor than aroma; grainy, bready. Body is medium, carbonation high. Decent APA.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours orange gold with a frothy off-white head. Strong citrus in the aroma. Med body. Flavor is roast malt behind a decent amount of citrus hop -maybe some citrus rind. Flavors are pretty mild, but they are good. A light beer with a lot of flavor.

Light copper with a slight haze - minimal, soapy lace - nose has a bready maltiness to it, along with notes of orange zest, pine resin, a bit of spiciness - light bodied, moderately frothy carbonation in the mouth - flavor is mostly dry and crisp, with some slight bready notes at times - some peppery hop character, a fair amount of citrus, moderate bitterness - long, dry finish, with lingering notes of pepper - a bit thin at times, but a decent, easy-drinking pale.
