This winter, IBUs start accumulating like snow in Colorado with our new Accumulation White IPA . Brewing a white IPA was not only a way to salute the white beauty falling from the sky, but a direct revolt to the longstanding tradition of brewing dark beers for winter and winter seasonal beers. At least that’s what our rebellious brewer Grady Hull likes to claim as he shovels in plenty of new hop varietals and a bit of wheat for a smooth mouthfeel. Stack up a few cases of Accumulation White IPA to keep your long nights glowing blizzard white.

Bottle: Pale yellow color with a whitish haze. A finger of white head leaves quite a bit of sticky web lacing. I like the light spicy and peppery addition to the citrus and floral hops. It drinks really well. Crisp, easy bitters. No need to dissect or pick this apart... very refreshing. New house beer for the winter.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s in Davis, CA. Pours translucent light gold - like some Wits. Very transient white head. Aroma is fruit and citrus - with a little caramel. And some very strange aroma. Med body, maybe. Flavor is fruit, maybe a bit tropical, with some citrus. The malt is pretty much unnoticeable. Getting some grapefruit rind. It’s a clean bitter beer, and tho I might like a little more malt (did I type that?), it’s pretty decent.

I don’t know what New Belgium is doing, just pumping out bland seasonal IPAs. New season, new label, but same old dull IPA. Nothing in particular bad about this beer but the hops aren’t bright and sharp, the malt is a bit too present, and boring. Also, White IPA is already a term for a beer style, why make a regular IPA and call it a White IPA and confuse me? I don’t get it.

So, I’ve decided that I pretty much love Mosaic hops - put them in your beer, and you’re likely to get at least a .2 bump in a rating from me - this is a surprisingly light and clean IPA for a winter seasonal - those mosaic hops shine quite nicely in the nose - low carbonation - a bit sweet, but clean - not a lot of complexity, but as a showcase of the hops, it works okay - quite a sweet finish - good, but even as a lover of these hops, it might not be a repeat purchase.

Bought locally, looking at the now myriad of gibberish on the label where a clear best before date used to be.
A very pale straw yellow colour, something I expected from a brew called a White IPA, it has a 1 finger head of foam and my glass is loaded with lacing. The brew is cold so there’s some haziness.
Grapefruit and lemon dominate the smell. A bit of wheat also makes its way through.
Grapefruit, lemon, quite a bit of a grassy hoppiness, minor notes of wheat...a pretty bitter brew from NB especially in the finish. Okay, combine the lemon and grass and you get, wait for it, lemon grass. ;^) I like the taste muchly.
Good mouthfeel and drinkability. This is a very nice brew and I’ll enjoy the other 5 bottles from the 6er, no problem.

Pale, nearly clear gold with a frothy white head. Lemon and pine aroma. Bright citrus flavor, grapefruit. Nice steady bitter. Pretty good.

This is nice, if not a strange choice for a winter seasonal. But then, I usually like drier lighter styles in the winter, rather than the big sweet beers, even when its cold and I’m not lingering in the Florida heat. But I like this beer in any season. The hop nose is fresh, citrusy lemon rind and grapefruit juice. Malts are soft fruity, dry finish. As an aside, this is a great beer for food, I had it with spicy tacos loaded with serranos and it helped with the heat. I could easily imagine it going with burgers and pizza or hot wings, or even spicy thai food and curries.

Pours pale hazy golden, with light airy finely foamy head. Aroma is grapefruit and hayloft. Taste is pine and citrus, but soft. Short, dry finish.

Bottle @ home, picked up in a six pack @ Wilbur’s Fort Collins. Pours a hazy light yellow appearance with a big white head that almost makes it look like a witbier. Really a bright juicy hoppy, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, dank aroma. Fun aroma. Spicy, a bit dank resiny hoppy, lemon, guava, passion fruit flavor with some cracker and toasted malty notes. A bit dry and slightly chewy yeasty. I don’t really like any of the other hoppy beers ever released by New Belgium besides Super IPA (which, let’s be honest, was an Alpine knockoff), but this one is fun. Hope it becomes available in cans year round.

Pour is a hazy blonde lemon aid lookalike. Aroma is a decent fruity hop with lots of pine. Flavor is a passion fruit mixed with herbal green hops. Finish is dry with a nice hoppy bitterness. This is nothing mind blowing but still solidly hopped and easy to drink.
