This fine craft beer was aged for six months in ex-bourbon barrels most recently used for maple syrup, then blended and aged in glass to develop a gentle complexity. Aromas of maple syrup, Demerara sugar, bourbon and tobacco, with a delightfully smooth palate that tastes of chocolate, roasted coffee, oaky vanillins and maple syrup.

This is a beer best enjoyed at around 10 degrees, and while it’s a fantastic pour today, it is also a great candidate for laying it down in the bottle and enjoying sometime in the future.

Draft at the brewery. Black body. Medium head. Big maple nose. On the palate this is rich, spicy, mapley. Full body. Good balancing bitterness underpins soft chocolatey malt and a solid barrel treatment.

Jet black with a small beige head. Sweet maple notes and a touch of chocolate. Maple and well more maple. Not rich or thick, but maple is dominant.

Bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver
Black colour, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, almonds, a bit of maple syrup. Medium body, dark chocolate flavour and maple, cacao; some booze.
Not elegant, but quite good. Not worth the price though.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Black with dissipating beige head. Lots of maple, a touch of bourbon. I prefer the maple oatmeal bourbon stout that's even lower abv. Average.

650mL bottle, pours black with a small brown head. Nose is full of maple syrup, followed by bourbon, and burnt sugar. Flavour is full of maple syrup galore, burnt sugar, and bourbon barrels. Rather jumbled, but the maple syrup actually works well with the bourbon. Sludgy, muffled, but not bad. Okay.

650 ml bottle. Pours almost black with short tan head that settles quickly. Aromas of maple syrup, chocolate syrup, sweet bourbon and slick roasted malts m. Flavors follow same but with lots of bourbon and alcohol which knocked everything off balance. Too long in the barrel?
