Viennese Swirl is an indulgent stout that blends smooth vanilla & rich chocolate for a decadent dessert-like beer. Brewed with lactose for a creamy sweetness & balanced by the gentle hoppy bitterness, it delivers layers of cocoa, coffee, & vanilla bean. Full-bodied & velvety, this rich stout is the perfect treat.

Keg at Mad Squirrel High Wycombe, 27/02/2026.
Black with little in the way of a head.
Nose is dark malts, molasses, cocoa powder.
Taste comprises mellow roast, earthy fruit rings, brown sugar melt, toffee, chocolate biscuit.
Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Passable impy stout ... just rather generic and lacking depth of flavour.

440ml can from the brewery online store. Poured almost black in colour with a short-lived, frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty , light dark chocolate. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter, with a smooth, somewhat light, roasty, dark chocolate, spicy, warm boozy alcohol bitter palate and some alcohol burn. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. No hint of any sweetness if I’m honest and nothing like the cake it was supposed to mirror. Disappointing.

Tap at the mad Squirrel tap watford. An opaque black brown coloured pour with a fine light tan head. Aroma is meaty dark roasted barley, bitter dark chocolate, burnt earth, robust roast. Flavour is composed of medium sweet, dark chocolate, bitter roasted barley, hint of vanilla sweetness, but the roast is heavy handed for the viennese Swirl concept. Palate is chewy, medium full bodied, mellow carbonation, little sticky finish. Tasty enough.
