In order to obtain a beer like no other, we have been adding whole sour cherries to our lambic for generations.

Our meeting with American importer Charles Finkel in the 1970s revolutionised the fruit beer segment. Charles convinced us to export our old kriek to the United States by boat. What we had not thought of is that the movement of the waves would reactivate the fermentation process and cause the corks to pop during the trip. It was like something out of The Adventures of Tintin. To prevent that from happening, we therefore developed an alternative production method for our kriek. We use fresh, not from concentrate, unsweetened cherry filtrate which we blend with lambic that is at least one year old before fermenting & macerating for up to 3 days and pasteurising the whole batch. So the corks don't pop.

28/1/2017. Bottle from Worldwide Alcohol bottle shop, Chelmsford, shared at Dan’s. Pours cherry red with a small pink head. Aroma of sweet cherry. Quite heavy sweetness, no bitterness, nice sharp sourness. Light body and sticky texture, carbonation is quite lively. Like fizzy cherry bomb sweets. Enjoyable. Also 22/6/2025. Bottle at Trappistventotto, Giovinazzo. See photo.

Clear cherry red colour, good foamy pink head, mostly diminishing, fair lacing. Aroma sweet cherry, bubble gum, candy sugar, wood notes, hint of cinnamon. Flavour heavy sweet, light sourish touch, cherries, bit woody, sugary. Aftertaste sweet and light sourish, fruity, sugary, light body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, very sweet but refreshing and drinkable.

0.25 l bottle from Pivoteka, Zagreb. Shared with lovely Anja. Deep ruby red, diminishing medium creamy pink head. Cherry Popsicle or bubblegum aroma. Cherry cake or yogurt, sweet with not enough sourness. Light body, soft to medium carbonation, moderate light fruity finish. Not really good, had much better kriek lambics.

24/12/2016 - bottle @ my sister’s place. Clear ref colour with creamy pink head. Nose is sweet, candy, cherries. Taste is first sweet, candy, cherries and a dryer, sour taste afterwards. Less sweet than I had imagined.
