In order to obtain a beer like no other, we have been adding whole sour cherries to our lambic for generations.
Our meeting with American importer Charles Finkel in the 1970s revolutionised the fruit beer segment. Charles convinced us to export our old kriek to the United States by boat. What we had not thought of is that the movement of the waves would reactivate the fermentation process and cause the corks to pop during the trip. It was like something out of The Adventures of Tintin. To prevent that from happening, we therefore developed an alternative production method for our kriek. We use fresh, not from concentrate, unsweetened cherry filtrate which we blend with lambic that is at least one year old before fermenting & macerating for up to 3 days and pasteurising the whole batch. So the corks don't pop.

Clear, purple beer, thin pink head. Sharp berry aroma. Bready, fruity taste. Crisp and not sickly. Nice, refreshing fruity aftertaste. Crisp, clean, fruity. Simple but tasty.

0.25l bottle. All about cherries, aroma, color, taste and finish with signifucant sweetness. Like some sweet, fizzy, cherry beverage, but not bad.

25cl bottle. Pours a clear dark reddy-purple colour, with a thin pinkish head around the glass. Aroma: sweet artificial cherries. Taste: mostly sweet cherry, quite tart, some sourness as well, sugary. Sticky mouthfeel, medium body, average carbonation. Hmm... nice but I think a little too sweet, 25cl of this was more than enough.

Bottle, nine months before bbd. Pours clear dark red, with a big creamy, red head settling at two finger thickness. Aroma is sweet cherries, fruit candy, sugar and some wooden notes. Medium to full body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is cherry candy and white sugar, as well as some wood, and very light farmhouse and lactic notes. Maybe not exactly bad, but far too sugary and with the sweetness covering all the nice subtle complexity of lambic.

Slightly hazy red with almost no head. Aroma is bubblegum, sweet and sour cherry, cedar wood. Taste is very sour cherry with some carbonation induced sourness and some sugary fruity sweetness. Also some alcohol bitterness and warmth. Finish is more cedar wood. Mouthfeel is lemonade with a sour hinge. Ok.

250ml bottle. Pours noticeably and a deep purpley red. Aroma is sweet cherries and a little bread. Taste is cherry, with plenty of interplay between sweet and sour. The body is thick, juicy and sweet, with plenty of tight bubbles bringing the sourness. Fantastic.

Ruby red, airy pink head. Average retention. Nose of funk wheat, massive cherry juice. Light body. Soursweet taste. Very fruity. Lots of natural cherries. Actually no bitterness. Pleasant.

Kicsi, gyorsan eltűnő hab, rubinvörös szín. Intenzív, fanyar, meggyes illat. Brutális savanyúval indít, első kortyra a meggyet alig érezni. Persze pár korty után megerősödik az édeskés meggy is, de végig erősen savas marad. Utóíze a korty folytatása, és sokáig megmarad. Közepesen testes. Sajnos túl savas - túl savanyú, túl sok a szénsav.
