In order to obtain a beer like no other, we have been adding whole sour cherries to our lambic for generations.

Our meeting with American importer Charles Finkel in the 1970s revolutionised the fruit beer segment. Charles convinced us to export our old kriek to the United States by boat. What we had not thought of is that the movement of the waves would reactivate the fermentation process and cause the corks to pop during the trip. It was like something out of The Adventures of Tintin. To prevent that from happening, we therefore developed an alternative production method for our kriek. We use fresh, not from concentrate, unsweetened cherry filtrate which we blend with lambic that is at least one year old before fermenting & macerating for up to 3 days and pasteurising the whole batch. So the corks don't pop.

250ml bottle. Bright red colour with a pink foam head leaving some lacing. Aroma of sweet dessert cherry, almonds. Taste is sour, sweet cherry, woody, lemon, candy, funk. Light bodied, soft carbonation, dry sweet & tart finish. Quite drinkable.

37,5cl bottle at Kolm Sibulat, Tallinn. Pours deep red with a nice, pink head. Fruity aroma dominated by cherries with hint of almonds and sour berries. Moderate to medium sweet with nice acidity and fairly decent cherry flavour. Almost impressive for the low alcohol content. A bit on the sweet side, but still fairly refreshing.

BOTTLE 25 CL. The aroma is plain (well ripe) sour cherry compote or juice. Not too complex, but intense. The taste is similar, cherry, the acidity is more like soda than lambic. Light nutty/fruit stone bitterness. Not much more than that, not even alcohol.

Bottle. Clear ruby color with pink head. Aroma is sweet cherry, some vanilla, juice-like. Taste is sweet cherry but some wood, cork, horseblanket, and base lambic is noticeable. Finish is dry and sweet at the same time. Medium carbonation. If you accept the fact that this is a sweetened Kriek, I suppose you can live with it.

Dobre piwo do wypicia w upalny dzień jednakże w stylu słabe.

Bottle multiple times in the US and Japan. Cherry nose with some faint oak and light sourness. Sweet on the palate with a light tartness that comes through. Better than most of the Lindemans but still nowhere near a Cantillon or Hanssens. Good beginners fruit lambic.

Pours cloudy and dark red with a medium pink head, very much like the Lindemans Framboise. Very inviting. The aroma contains cherries, sugar, marzipan, It tastes heavy sweet and light sour with a long finish. Oily texture and soft carbonation. Nice, although this one seems less complex than the Framboise.

Bottle from JSG Wine Merchants. Drunk at home. I think this will be the penultimate beer I drink in my Ely home… Dark red with a brownish/purple tint. Ring of pink head around the glass. Light aroma of cherry and brown sugar. Gorgeous taste: tart and fruity without being overpowering. Gentle yet pronounced to the vinous sour finish. Spot on carbonation. A great kriek.

355ml bottle. Pours an unclear dark red with a medium, long lasting, pink head that laces nicely. Aroma of tart cherries. Sweet flavour of cherries and sugar with a dry, acidic, tart finish. Light body with an oily texture and soft carbonation.
