How do you fit a square peg into a round hole? Our hop-heavy golden rye ale thumbs its piggy nose at the style guidelines. It boasts a lavish Pacific Northwest hop bouquet of nectarine, grapefruit and wood, and a lopsided bitterness accented by spicy rustic rye malts. Dry, crisp and unabashededly hoppy, who wouldn’t love a Square Pig?

Draft. Orange, berry, rye malt and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Moderately sweet orange, rye malt, and moderately bitter grapefruit peel/pine flavor. Good body. Nice.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear light yellow with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice citrus note with a touch of pine and a rye backbone. Flavor a nice earthy citrus and light pine combination with rye and light grain combination.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a hazy bronze color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and biscuit malt. Light to medium body with flavors of spiced hops, citrus and grainy malt. The finish is mildly spicy rye and citrusy hops. Decent overall.

Tap at Vintage. Golden hop-heavy rye ale. Unfiltered, hazy golden tan. Steady creamy white head. Astringent citrus rind dryness coupled with sweet Rye tones. Fresh and quite enjoyable. Well balanced, comes together well. Coop and crisp, mild tropical tones. A bit sugary at times with the rye, I’d love to taste this beer without the rye addition. The hops carry this one.
