The Duck-Rabbator Dopplebock is a powerfully malty German-style lager. The malty/grainy flavors so dominate this beer, it’s like a whole loaf of bread in every glass! Is it a beverage or is it a meal? It’s both.

Bottle. Lactic acid and light chocolate malt aroma. Dark brown with small head. Mildly sweet chocolate malt and lightly astringent/bitter alcohol/lactic acid flavor. Smooth. Pretty good - one of the best US doppelbocks I’ve had.

Pours cloudy, deep wooden brown with a short, thick, bright-tan head. Aroma is candied fruit, raisin, syrup, licorice. Taste is sweet, candied...licorice, caramel, nuts, dark, dried fruits. A slight herbal-mild spice flavour. Very nice...only a hint of the alcohol content...very soft and smooth for 8.5%.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head leaving spotty lacing spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a bready malt, toast and raisin. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet roast and chocolate with caramel. Alcohol well hidden, a very impressive doppelbock from Duck-Rabbit.

12 ounce bottle into tulip, bottle dating is not notched. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger fairly dense tan head with nice retention that reduces to a thin cap that sticks around. Small bits of lacing on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, biscuit, chocolate, molasses, toasted malts, dark fruits, and spicy hops. Very nice aromas here with good balance. Taste of big caramel, toasted malt, chocolate, molasses, biscuit, dark fruit, spiciness, and a bit of booze. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, toasted malt, biscuit, and spices on the finish for a bit. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol has a decent presence with a decent warming on the finish. Overall a very nice and impressive doppelbock. The alcohol presence is a bit much, but overall still very enjoyable.

Received in trade from VncentLIFE, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a deep dark brown color with a decent tan head that shows moderate retention and minimal lace. Smells of dark dried fruit, caramel, and burnt sugar with a hint of ash mixed in there as well. Taste is dark malty with a hint of mineral and ash. All the usual suspects are here, caramel, dark sugar, prunes, plums, raisins. Light roasted grains are a bit out of place. Little to no hop presence, but there really shouldn’t be. Medium to thick body light level of carbonation with a caramel thick mouthfeel. There are better examples of the style, but this is one damn fine brew. I quite enjoyed this one, roasted grains and all.

Thick, rich deep brown coloured body with a cola coloured glow near the bottom and a dense, three centimetre tall orange, copperish tan head - beautiful beer. Aroma of cherries, pit fruits, raisins, malt, brown sugar, molasses, grapes and a bit more deep fruits and a slight bit of oak. Full-bodied; Dense, thick mouthful with a rich malty flavour at first then hits hard with the sugars - brown sugar, molasses and even a hint of vanilla comes through. Aftertaste shows a bit of complexity with caramel showing first, then some fruits, peat and a little chocolate finishing it out. Overall, a very good beer that isn’t light by any means, but the complexity and accuracy of the style is impressive, even for this beermaker who already produces great beers. Quite simply, if you like beer - buy this. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 28-July-2011.

Bottle thanks to my Secret Santa. Poured a clear brown with a slight red hue and a tan head that dissipated completely. Aroma was quite malty with sweet dark grains, milk chocolate and a bit of sweet bread as well. Flavor was similar with dark grains in the start joined by sweet chocolate and sweet bread note.
