Voted “Perfect Sake for a Gift” in 2012’s UK Sake Awards and winner of Silver Award at IWC 2013, Golden Amber is a superb example of a koshu or aged sake.
Sake is usually drunk within a year of its bottling date: the aging process is delicate and fraught with complication, so aged sake is very rare making up less than 1% of all the sake produced in Japan.
Golden Amber has been aged for 12 years, four of which are in an oak barrel designed for aging whisky. The resulting beverage is extraordinary: dark amber in colour with a beguiling toffee/almond nose. Exceptionally well balanced and smooth with rich, deep flavours of smoky oak, vanilla, caramel and spices, all reminiscent of a single malt whisky (but with less than half the alcohol, acidity and calories!)
Golden Amber is a wonderful after dinner treat; a welcome alternative to the stronger, more traditional digestives. It also pairs fabulously with rich pork dishes and hard, mature cheeses. Try a bottle – you won’t regret it!

To finish off my expensive sake lunch in style. Very deep syrupy looking gold pour. Nose is rich vanilla, oak, and flowers. Tastes almost brandy like but i supposse 12 years aging will do that, Thicker bodied and semi sweet. Some pears, vanilla, cantaloupe, and oaky. hint of spice.
