Special Release Series. Seven years after we started brewing in Oregon, we decided the sky was not the limit. One year, two rockets and countless lab hours later, we successfully launched a payload of brewer’s yeast into outer space with the help of rocket scientists. After a much awaited return to Earth, the mission of creating space beer is now complete. Ground Control boldly combines local and out-of-this-world ingredients. This rich, complex Imperial Stout is brewed with Oregon hazelnuts, star anise and cocoa nibs, and fermented with an Ale yeast that survived a trip to space and back. Mankind will enjoy the sweet finesse of this beer that only fares better with time.

4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey. Dark brownish black with tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, roast, chocolate. Tastes of chocolate, roast, booze, light dark fruit. Full body with a dry finish. A bit boozy but tasty.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a dark tan head. Caramel and anise aroma. Caramel and chocolate flavor with light earthiness. Medium bodied. Caramel and fruitiness lingers with chocolate and light nuttiness.

22oz bomber shared by Brad. Opaque brown-black body. Lacy beige head. Not super into the aroma, kind of odd, herbal, thin. The taste is pretty nice, the cocoa and hazelnut give it some pleasant depth. Not unlike a liqueur at times, creamy minty chocolate. Really grows on me, rather sublime once you get past the sort of unappetizing aroma.

OK, so my wife is all over this due to the space commercialization angle. She made me buy seven bottles from K&L in Redwood City, which is why they don’t have any more for anybody else :(. Pours deep deep brown, large tan creamy head, good lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roasty, anise, a bit of molasses. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium bitter, chocolate roasty, touch of anise. Fullish body. Pretty solid impy overall.

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is primarily chocolate with nuts and burnt malt. Full body or so. Flavor is chocolate, nuts, hint of licorice, smooth burnt malt. Heat is detectable but not bothersome. It keeps trying to say "barrel aged", but tain’t so. The flavors are fairly strong and pretty fresh. In a year or three it would probably be more laid back, but it’s good to go right now, if in your face flavor is desired.
