Flagship Series. A delicious Oatmeal Stout with just enough hops to balance the copious quantities of dark roasted malts, oatmeal for a creamy smooth drinkability, and whole vanilla beans for a rich complexity.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Black color with brownish head. Aroma of roasted malt and paper. The mouthfeel is dry but quite smooth, a bit sweeter later when the beer shows some lactose; roasted malt flavor, dark chocolate, dark bread, some rye bread, quite good blend; luckily the vanilla is very subdued. Correct bitterness. The dark malts provide some acidity in the final.
Good beer.

650 ml bottle. Pours black with full tan head. Aromas of milk chocolate and sweet coffee. Flavors are similar with dry dark cocoa and both vanilla and nuts in the mix. Very dry finish. Quite smooth but somewhat light in body.

Pitch black color. Big sweet vanilla nose with a touch of dark fruit. The mouth is very smooth and sweet with roasty character and lacto notes. Med full body. Don’t know why but I just can’t groove on Sweet Stouts recently. This isn’t bad, but wouldn’t revisit.

Bottle: Very dark brown pour with a finger of creamy tan head. Mild aroma is roast, cocoa, and faint vanilla. It’s been a while since I last had the base Oatis, but I had expected more out of the vanilla experience. The roast and bittersweet dark chocolate seem to clash a bit. The bitters stick to my tongue... not really picking up any vanilla now either. The mouthful is thick and creamy like the original, but overall it falls short.
