Can. Grainy malt aroma. Clear chestnut with a small off-white head, some nice creamy lacing. As in the nose, the flavor is a heavy gainy malt with a very slight metallic bitter finish. Body on the light side of medium, moderate carbonation.

16 oz. can from a trade with Sean & Amber. Dark copper in color. Nose is faint caramel and a light fruity type note. Flavor was weak nuts and caramel notes. The body of this brew is real thin. Toffee notes seem stronger when the beer was colder. I don’t taste hazelnut or chocolate. For the first time in a long while I enjoyed a beer when it was colder rather them warmer. This isn’t bad…. Just boring.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 04/27/2012. Deep mahogany color with a medium off-white head that evaporates steadily. Spotty lacing. Caramel malt and citrus in the nose. Light to medium body with a sweet malty character and flavors of caramel, fruit and slight hops. The finish is sweet with a caramel and toffee aftertaste. Pretty average overall.

Draft at Rich Os. Light brown body with a fizzy, off-white head, rapidly diminishing. Raw grain aroma with notes of caramel, roast and toasted grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and moderate carbonation. A sight tartness in the finish, along with some vinegary notes. Flabby, unclean malts. Lacking the richness of a Scottish ale. Disappointing.

Pours a crystal clear solid copper brown color with a good sized creamy white head that slowly dissipates, but leaves some spotty lace in its wake. Now this beer is still quite cold, freshly poured after coming out of the "regular" refrigerator, but most of what I’m getting from the aroma is an almost tart fruitiness. As this warms it opens up a little and I get more malt with sweet caramel and toffee, bread, and hints of dark fruit. Taste is mild toffee and caramel up front followed by some tart and dark fruits for the dry finish. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick sugary mouthfeel. This one is a bit weird. There’s a tart almost metallic thing going on the aroma. The body is a bit to thin for the style and the flavor should have more rich caramel/burnt sugar maltiness in it, but it doesn’t. This one kind of falls short of expectations.

@GABF-on tap-pours a foamy tan head with copper color. Aroma is sweet medium malt, earthy. Taste is sweet medium malt, earthy hops. Medium body, easy.

Can @ home. Pours a bit hazy, red orange appearance with a cream colored head. Sweet, toffee, caramel malty, slightly citrusy, sweet creamy aroma. Somewhat cloying, sweet caramel, toffee flavor. Seems a little unbalanced to me. Grassy. Kind of weird.

Can thanks to Josh! Pours a clear deep red with a bit of brown and a near white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of bread and hay with a bit of must and toffee. Flavor begins with bread and toffee but has a bit of an odd musty finish. Pretty average.

16 ounce can shared by BrewEngineer at Butters Slutfest 2.0, Richmond, VA, 4.23.11. Pours a clear medium brown color with a thin tan head. Fair head retention and lacing. Grainy aroma with a faint bit of caramel. The taste is caramel, grain and a cola-like note. Medium bodied. Not bad and fairly refreshing but weird for a Scottish ale.

Can. Caramel malt and hay aroma. Medium brown color with nice head. Sweet chocolate caramel malt and lightly bitter herbal hops flavor. Nice - on the sweet side.
