Gruit [or grut] - originally referring to a mix of herbs and spices used to flavor and preserve beer in a time predating hops, gruits were shaped by their local environment and had a distinctly regional character. They were also closely guarded secrets!
Since he was a child, Antonio had loved Portugal's national park, Peneda-Gerês. Over the years, his passion for the region and for beer led to friendships with local producers. Together, they wondered - what would it look like to combine these things? And so they decided to find out: with multi-floral honey from Casa do Couto, and 6 different herbs foraged by Loja do Parque, the Gerês gruit was born, and what was ancient and wild was made new again.
