GoldRush is a recent American apple from Purdue University, named for its color and the rush of flavor it offers. That flavor is rich, complex and vinous. Its tart acidity, balanced with a spicy sweetness, makes it highly prized for cider. This fourth single varietal from Albemarle CiderWorks is dry and crisp with citrus overtones hinting of grapefruit. Its tartness on the tongue is smoothed by notes of honey and ginger. This is an elegantly dry cider that pairs wonderfully with a variety of foods - chicken cordon bleu, trout, Gruyere, Manchego - or on its own.

From a tasting flight at Albemarle CiderWorks. Poured a clear, very pale, almost clear yellow color with no head at all. Light apple, can’t really smell too much of the ginger. Light bitter grapefruit notes, but pretty subtle. Ginger isn’t really notciable either, I wouldn’t have guessed without knowing. I’d bump up both by perhaps by actually adding additions of ginger to it, which would help differentiate their ciders a bit more.

750 mL bottle from Beer Run. Pours a clear pale golden color. Aroma of tart apples with sweet floral notes, mild tannins, faint bits of vanilla. The taste is tart apples, vanilla, tart berries. Medium bodied, peppery booze, slightly hot.
