On tap at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very dark maroon with minimal off-white head and medium carbonation. There’s figs, malts and berries in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite sweet but with a little underlying sharpness. Initial flavours are malts, figs, raisins and cherries but later on come nuts, red berries and hints of caramel as well leading to a somewhat fruity finish. This is quite nice – and definitely a grower !

330ml bottle bought from the Offie, Leicester and drunk at home. Mid-brown, a little bit translucent with a good-sized layer of khaki head. Aroma of figs, raisins, some anise. Taste is mostly sweet backed by a lightly astringent bitterness which takes it through to the long finish. Notes of dark caramel in the aftertaste. Body on the light side with loads of carbonation. Love it!

Bottle. Color: Clear copper, large lightly mocha head. Aroma: Dark malt, caramel, candy sugar. Taste: Candy sugar, caramel, malty with some floral hopbitterness backbone. Over moderate sweet, light bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation. Mwah... Definitely prefer the Geuze beers of this brewery. Nothing special this time...

330ml bottle. Cloudy, chestnut colour with weak, ruby shimmer and average to huge, thick, firm, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, off-white head. Slightly toasty and minimally nutty, dark and caramel malty aroma, yeasty fruity overtones, hints of toasted nuts, Brazil nut, a touch of red berries, minimally waxy overtones. Taste is sweet-ish and slightly toasty, minimally sugary, dark and caramel malty, minimally yeasty fruity, hints of caramel, a touch of toasted nuts, rock sugar, red berries; a less sweet strand with hints of cherry and a minimally fruit acidic touch joins in the middle part and takes over in the finish.
Dissolved sugar enriched, watery texture, smooth palate, medium, dense, foamy, prickly carbonation.
A tad sweet and sugary, the cherry partition conciliates tardily - OK.
