After chatting with one of the brewers, he told me they’re working on a new one. Intrigued I asked, and got a growler of this.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger off white to tan foamy head. Light lacing initially. Last edges of the growler, obviously lost it’s carb, and head. I’m not worried.
The smell starts off with some roasty coffee and cocoa beans riding in on some licorice, light bourbon, a tingle of wood and then some vanilla.
The flavor takes in all of those previously mentioned flavors allows it to touch down dryly in the aftertaste. Smooth sweet licorice finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. Slight stickiness muddying up on my tongue.
Overall, this was a pretty good barrel aged Imperial Stout. I’d definitely have it again.
