This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a dark burnt amber to red color with a quick thin white foamy head that dissipated at an even pace. Filmy clingy lacing around the glass.
The smell starts with sweet stonefruit, delicate honey, subtle crisp grassiness. Subtle sweet grapes.
The flavor combines all previously mentioned aromas and blends into a sweet toffee/caramel malt backbone. Caramel malt backbone dryly moves into the aftertaste and leaves a super quick finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Carbonation runs fairly light. Normal DIPA bitterness doesn’t hit as expected. This one, yes, its a bit smoother (I’m thinking the honey may have helped).
Overall, well as an DIPA, I’d say it works, I see all of the qualities of one. To me, its reminiscent of an old school DIPA with the maltiness coming out. I don’t mind it, but I can see how a fair amount of people might not like this.
