Poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a dark brown ruddy color with a thin finger’s worth of white foamy head quickly dissipating. Stringy lace.
The aroma took the normal qualities of an English mild ale (sweet earthy grassiness rubbing with mild sweet toffee to caramel and toasty malts) and blended nicely with some sweet and spicy rye.
The flavor takes those flavors to blend nicely and add a light floral sweetness to the taste. Mild maltiness hits the aftertaste with a sly rye to it. Quick semi-sweet to lightly spiced finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable sweet to spice finish. Lightly carbonated, rye spice lightly hits in the harshness on my tongue.
Overall, good English dark mild ale with an American twist to get us to drink out of the box. And the rye is low enough to not distract from the style, would go great with some fish n’ chips.
