Poured into a mug, the appearance was a ruddy dark brown close to black color with a thin finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipated at an even pace. Mild stringy lace.
The aroma had a little bit of dough, roasty coffee beans, burnt sugars, then toast, and then chocolate malts. Some dark fruits.
The flavor definitely leans towards the sweet side initially and then takes in the dark fruits smoothly to underscore the aftertaste and then ends up crisping the finish in a delicately sly bready sort of way.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation felt fine. Fairly smooth on the tongue.
Overall, not a bad porter, seems to definitely lean towards the English side.
