A European-style Dark / Münchener Dunkel. Deep reddish-mahogany in color with sweet caramel malt, nutty and toffee notes, and roasted hints. Penn Dark has a moderate hopping rate and a crisp, clean lager beer finish. A surprisingly smooth dark beer.

Bottle; Nose of butter and caramel; brown with a medium, long-lasting, glass-lacing beige head; taste is tingly, buttery, and caramelly with a tiny bit of hops in the finish.

Dark amber color with brown head. Aroma is light with hints of roasted malt and maybe fruit. The malt flavor starts off roasted and caramel and then turns more pale and grainy. I also get a hint of yeast and spice from the hops.

This beer never fails to disappoint me. Every couple of years I try one again on a whim and am reminded why I tend to avoid it. +++ Sampled from a brown 12oz bottle this beer poured extremely dark in color with a small tan head. There was almost no scent. There was a delicate flavor that is slightly sweet and malty but rather indistinct with a bit of wood. Short finish. Medium body.
