Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a sturdy dark burnt orange almost orange color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a slow pace. Slight lace.
The aroma had some caramel/toffee malts up front and then a nice earthy/grassy hop blend with some orange pulp sweetness and dark fruits. Light woodiness and a little bit of leather and tobacco also make a small play underneath.
The flavor dryly moved the malts into the hops somewhat sweet with a touch of bitterness at the end. Aftertaste was moderately sweet with a dry malty finish.
The palate was medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Low key carbonation and the ABV felt good.
Overall, pretty good old ale that I could have again.
