Long before today’s hazy craze, Germany was brewing up its traditional cloudy wheat beer, the Hefeweizen. Characterised by clove and banana notes imparted by yeast (“hefe” means yeast, after all), and given a luscious mouthfeel by the use of wheat (that’s the “weizen” part), our old world style Hefeweizen is refreshing and moreish to the bottom of the stein.
Brave Old World is an 8 Wired series of historic styles brought back to life in modern New Zealand.
This is the eighth beer in this series, a Hefeweizen, inspired by the Wheat beers of old.
